Texas AG Paxton, Dallas Citizens Council join Dallas’ legal fight to ban Exxxotica
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and the Dallas Citizens Council filed court documents early Thursday morning defending Dallas’ right to ban the porn convention Exxxotica from the city-owned convention center downtown.
The filing insists the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center is “a nonpublic forum” and a “commercial asset” that the city can control as it sees fit. That includes prohibiting a porn expo or anyone else it wants to keep out. Says the brief, being able to do so is good for business — and not a violation of the First Amendment, as Exxxotica claims in its own legal filings.
“Attorney General Ken Paxton, on behalf of the state of Texas, is committed to promoting economic development throughout the state,” says Thursday’s filing. “Essential to that goal is ensuring that governmental entities can manage their commercial enterprises without onerous and unnecessary restrictions.”
Exxxotica’s attorney called the joint filing “an outrageous waste of taxpayers’ money.”
