SF to unveil plan for resiliency in an earthquake or other disasterAnother earthquake will strike San Francisco. The question is when. That’s why San Francisco today is expected to unveil an effort more than a year in the making that will detail how The City will respond to a major disaster like an earthquake. Exactly 110 years after the infamous 1906 temblor that leveled much of San Francisco, the strategy revealed today will tie together efforts that formerly existed within different areas of The City’s government, said Patrick Otellini, chief resiliency officer for San Francisco. “It’s trying to tie together what previously were fragmented efforts,” Otellini explained. Some 30 city departments as well as more than 60 nonprofit and private sector contributors have contributed to San Francisco’s Resilience Strategy, which includes keeping as many as 95 percent of residents in The City during the recovery stage following a disaster.
