Governor, legislative leaders agree to restore vetoed education fundsSALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Gary Herbert will call state lawmakers into special session next month to restore nearly $4.8 million in education funding he vetoed in March. The agreement with leaders in the Republican-controlled Legislature avoids a veto override session the House and Senate were considering to deal with the governor's cuts. “While the House has the support for a veto override session, it has always been our top priority to restore the funding for these programs, and that can be accomplished when we come together for our interim meetings in May," said House Speaker Greg Hughes, R-Draper. Legislative interim meetings are scheduled for May 18. "I appreciate the Legislature’s willingness to engage in a collaborative path forward on this line item," Herbert said.
