Ogden helicopter company faces $55,000 penalty in federal courtSALT LAKE CITY — The U.S. Attorney’s Office asked a federal judge Friday to order a default judgment of $55,000 against an Ogden helicopter tour company in a case that stemmed from allegations the company did not adequately screen employees for drug use. Whirlybird Helicopters did not answer the federal suit the government filed July 23, 2015 after a Federal Aviation Administration investigation alleged the company failed to do federally required pre-employment drug tests on eight employees and that three of those employees were not in Whirlybird’s random drug testing pool. A default judgment by Judge Brooke Wells would end the case and require Whirlybird to pay the demanded penalty sum. In a March 4, 2014 Standard-Examiner story, Whirlybird CEO Adam Wilkerson said a contract company handled Whirlybird’s drug testing operations.
