Lawsuit seeks class action for Sprouts workers affected by data scamA federal lawsuit seeks class action certification for possibly thousands of Sprouts Farmers Market employees who might have been affected by a data breach last month through a scam e-mail. The lawsuit alleges that the company released 2015 employee W-2 tax forms to unknown parties in response to the phishing scam, according to the Sawaya Law Firm, which filed the suit in U.S. District Court in Colorado on behalf of the lead plaintiff. As a result, the scammers already have used the plaintiff's personal information such as a Social Security number to fraudulently apply for a tax refund belonging to the worker, said attorney David Miller. The lawsuit claims the company failed to properly safeguard employee information. A spokesman for Sprouts Farmers Market said he was unable to comment on pending litigation but said this was "an isolated event" and no systems were breached. www.denverpost.com/news/ci_29782330/lawsuit-seeks-class-action-sprouts-workers-affected-by?source=top_stories_bar
