$1 billion Irving Verizon project approval delayed over apartment worries
Telecom giant Verizon says its planned Irving mixed-use development will have room for 10,000 employees and could ultimately be worth $1 billion. The Hidden Ridge project will include offices, a new commuter rail station, shops and a hotel. But Irving city officials have delayed approving zoning for the 110-acre development over concerns about the number and type of residential units planned in the project. Irving wants Verizon to build offices before it allows the planned apartments. And the city is pushing the company to put many of the planned 1,800 residences in high-rise buildings.
