Plan to eliminate Fairport Harbor Police Department voted down unanimouslyThe Fairport Harbor Village Police Department dodged a bullet April 19. No - nobody was shooting at the cops there, but a proposed measure that would have cleared the way to eliminate the department in favor of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office providing police protection was shot down unanimously by village council at its regular meeting. Talk of dissolving the department, which was met with a healthy amount of disapproval from many village residents, came on the heels of nearby Madison Village’s defeated proposal to do the same earlier this year, said Fairport Harbor Village Mayor Timothy Manross following the meeting. It was all about balancing the budget, Manross said, and in no way reflects his thoughts on the police department, itself.
