The Oklahoma Senate passed a bill Thursday (April 14) co-authored by local legislators that will help families with autistic children with insurance coverage. Oklahoma is currently one of seven states that does not require insurance companies to cover treatment for children with autism, according to a state Senate press release. “There’s no place to go in terms of financial assistance. There’s the autism network and those things that help, but this would be a good start to have that insurance available, which is capped at $25,000,” said Rep. Pat Ownbey, R-Ardmore, on Thursday. Local legislators Ownbey and Sen. Frank Simpson, R-Springer, co-authored House Bill 2962. The bill was approved by the Senate with bipartisan support 36 to 5. It was previously passed by the House before reaching the Senate and will now return to the House for further consideration. Read more: www.ardmoreite.com/article/20160415/NEWS/160419708
