JEFFERSON CITY • The Missouri House has snuffed out a plan that would have allowed terminal cancer patients to legally use marijuana for pain relief. Two days after giving preliminary approval to the plan, the House reversed course and voted 66-87 against the measure, which would have called for voters to decide this fall whether they favor legalizing medical pot only for people who are in hospices. It comes as a supporters of legalizing marijuana are seeking to put a question on the November ballot asking for a much broader legalization of the drug. The group, New Approach Missouri, is collecting signatures for a plan that would apply to a wider population of people suffering from painful diseases.
