Ozarks lawmaker, top Democrats don't see eye-to-eye on proposed education fixJEFFERSON CITY — Sen. Jay Wasson said he was a bit surprised to learn how critical Gov. Jay Nixon and Democratic gubernatorial candidate and current Attorney General Chris Koster have been of his legislation to adjust Missouri's education formula. In the past month, both Nixon and Koster have characterized his bill as an attempt to lower education spending in the state. “It’s no accident that the legislators who are supporting this bill are some of the same folks who are also supporting more budget-busting tax breaks for special interests. They tell public schools to lower their horizons. But for their special interest friends — the sky’s the limit,” Nixon said on April 15 during a speech at a Columbia high school. Koster also criticized the bill when he spoke at the Greene County Democrats' Jackson Day event on April 9.
