Rauner shuts two state camping sites, can't afford trash pickup or electricityThe latest casualty of the state budget impasse? A couple of downstate parks. The reason? Gov. Bruce Rauner's administration can't pay for trash pickup or electrical service. So you'll have to make other plans if you'd hoped to camp at the Ramsey Lake State Recreation Area near Effingham or Horseshoe Lake State Park near Granite City. Both are closed indefinitely, according to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The sites won't reopen until services are restored, agency spokesman Chris Young said. The department plans to contact campers with reservations to make other arrangements or refund deposits.
