Gun in hand, Nebraska veteran decides to ask for help instead, now raises PTSD awarenessKEARNEY — As he sat in a chair with his .45-caliber handgun in his palm, David Stott didn’t see a way out. He was drinking heavily, making bad decisions, and risked losing his marriage and family. “I had plans made. I had different ways that I thought about how I was going to do it (suicide),” Stott said of his thoughts in 2012. “I don’t know for sure why I didn’t go through with it.” Instead, “by God’s good graces” Stott reached out to those around him and got the help and support he never realized he needed for post-traumatic stress disorder. Now, he’s trying to spread PTSD awareness and support for veterans through #22KILL, a worldwide campaign created in 2013 to research and understand the condition.
