Supporters celebrate lawmakers' override of Ricketts' veto, but opponents decry bill and 'lawlessness' they say it condonesLINCOLN — Alejandra Ayotitla listened to every word of a two-hour debate in the Nebraska Legislature that had the potential to decide whether she someday works as a psychologist in her home state. When lawmakers voted Wednesday to narrowly override a veto by Gov. Pete Ricketts, elation washed over the 20-year-old psychology major at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. “I’m very happy that it passed,” said Ayotitla, who was brought to the country illegally as a child. “It means I can get a professional license to practice in Nebraska.” The outcome was much less satisfying for Gov. Pete Ricketts. While he may have lost the showdown with the Legislature, the governor said he has “no doubt” that his veto was in line with the views held by most Nebraskans.
