Some say putting on hold more than $500 million worth of investment in Kansas transportation has the state on a road to ruin. And they put the blame for lack of revenue needed to make those investments on income tax cuts made in 2012. “We had a good state that was sound and reasonable, and was a good place to live, and I feel like that it is in danger. In fact, it may be gone,” said Mary Lou Reece, of Wichita, owner and president of Reece Construction, based in Scandia. The company also has an office and staging yard in Salina. Taking money from transportation has been one quick fix to fill a $250 million state revenue shortfall projected over the next 15 months, and it’s causing people in the road construction game to complain.
