Amid tears, families of Georgia Southern students killed in wreck seek solace, meaning
STATESBORO -- Friends of five Georgia Southern University nursing students who were killed in an Aprli 22, 2015, wreck on Interstate 16 in Bryan County embrace Thursday morning after parents of the students and attorneys announced settlements with the trucking company involved in the incident.

Jimmy DeLoach stood outside Georgia Southern University’s School of Nursing on Thursday morning, only a few feet from the plaque that bears his 21-year-old daughter’s name.
An attorney had just announced more than $70 million in settlements against the trucking companies involved in the fiery wreck that killed her and four other Georgia Southern nursing students on their way to Savannah for their last day of clinicals at St. Joseph’s/Candler one year ago.
This was about accountability, DeLoach said.
