Operators of a Dayton-area abortion clinic are fighting to keep their doors open at a hearing today at the Ohio Department of Health. The Women's Medical Center of Dayton has struggled to meet new licensing requirements which mandate that ambulatory surgical centers have agreements with area hospitals in case of emergencies. Ohio Health Director Richard Hodges twice last year denied the clinic's request for a waiver or exception to the 2013 state law. The clinic says it has backup doctors in place for such emergencies. A federal court judge ordered that the clinic could remain open while its appeal is heard.
