JEFFERSON CITY • Gov. Jay Nixon signed a mid-year adjustment to the current state budget Friday. The supplemental spending plan, worth a total of $464.7 million in state and federal funding, adds money for schools, healthcare services and overtime costs that weren’t included in the $26 million budget approved last year. Of the money, $278.2 million comes from the state’s general checkbook. “We have a strong history in Missouri of maintaining fiscal discipline, and that means paying our bills and providing core services to Missourians,” the Democratic governor said in a statement. “Working together to meet those commitments and protect our AAA credit rating puts Missouri in sharp contrast to the fiscal chaos and credit downgrades we have seen in some nearby states.” Read more: www.stltoday.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/nixon-signs-mid-year-budget-adjustment/article_55b37845-1e99-5af4-8536-aaaf7af53009.html
