Iowa lawmakers agree budget; Planned Parenthood funding survivesDES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa Legislature on Friday adjourned its 2016 session with agreement over a roughly $7.35 billion budget, following days of private meetings that ultimately stopped an attempt by GOP lawmakers to remove state funding for Planned Parenthood. Members of the Democratic-controlled Senate and Republican-majority House sent remaining bills to Gov. Terry Branstad for approval. "The best thing that we can celebrate is that we didn't choose gridlock," said Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal, D-Council Bluffs. "Even though we have very strong differences in some areas, we set those aside and worked on the things that we could agree on." That agreement was on a spending plan that would provide little new money over the previous state budget. Amid deals earlier this session on K-12 education funding and tax rules, there was a sticking point in the final days over the future of state funding for Planned Parenthood.
