HARTFORD — Legislation intended to strengthen the state’s human trafficking law awaits action in the Senate after clearing the House unanimously this week. The bill includes recommendations from law enforcement and advocates of human traffic victims, who say weaknesses in the state’s 10-year-old law are to blame for the lack of any convictions since its passage. Notable changes include allowing prosecution under the human trafficking law after just one occurrence, increased reporting and records-retention requirements for hotels, and expanded statutes and penalties involving those who patronize a prostitute. “There is a lot of work that the state of Connecticut has done to combat human trafficking, and this is just one more step in the right direction in that regard,” said Rep.
