The University of Central Florida's downtown Orlando campus received a $1 million gift, leaving officials with $3 million left to fundraise, officials announced Monday. The downtown campus is expected to open in August 2018 after it received approval in March from the Florida Board of Governors, which oversees the state's public universities. The $20 million in state funds survived the budget process and the project was not added to a list of Governor Rick Scott's vetoes. For the $60 million main academic building, the university will also use $20 million from its own budget and must raise $20 million in donations to offset the cost. Monday's donation from BB&T Corporation brings the total fund raised to $17 million, officials said in a news release.
