ASHLAND — In an area hard-hit by job losses in the steel, coal and railroad industries, Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton made a campaign stop Monday in Ashland.
Mostly she was greeted by supporters, although some residents who turned out made it evident they were unhappy about the current Democratic administration’s energy policy and its impact on the coal industry.
Clinton met with several dozen members of United Steelworkers of America Local 1865 Monday afternoon to talk about possible tariffs or ways to lessen the damage of Chinese dumping of steel that led to the layoff of hundreds of steelworkers in the Tri-State last year.
“It’s pretty awesome to talk to someone who could be president,” said Scott Conley, president of the Steelworkers Local 1865. “We hope it will help.”
