Hickenlooper signs $27 billion budget with aid for roads, schoolsFlanked by Democrats and Republicans from the legislature, Gov. John Hickenlooper signed a $27 billion state budget into law Tuesday. He praised both parties for their "commitment and collaboration" in ironing out contentious taxing and spending issues since the legislative session began on Jan. 13. "The Colorado General Assembly has a long history of setting aside disagreements that in other states would lead to acrimonious gridlock," Hickenlooper said. "In keeping with that tradition, the budget agreement reflects the best spirit of bipartisanship in the United States and it will effectively serve the entire state of Colorado." The budget includes a slight increase to account for inflation and enrollment for K-12 education, preserves about $150 million for transportation and adds about $50 million more for expenses paid from the $9.9 billion general fund.
