FREDERICKSBURG—The website for the Spotsylvania County Republican Committee has been sabotaged by a former member. Eric Martin, who said he owns the domain name, spotsygop.com, last month replaced the site’s content with a message calling the GOP committee’s leadership dishonest, divisive and hostile. The note states that he has revoked the committee’s right to use the domain name, in addition to any logos, signs and other intellectual property that Martin created. “I’m perfectly happy to step away from what the committee has become,” Martin said in an interview. “It has degraded into a mob mentality, lawless bunch of zealots.” The intra-party turmoil has been festering for the past year and reflects the national divide among so-called establishment Republicans and tea party members. The tension boiled over when Supervisor David Ross—who also chairs the Republican committee—and other, more conservative members opposed a publicly financed baseball stadium to attract a minor-league team.
