Billings voters reject levies for high schools, elementary schoolsVoters shot down levies that would have raised taxes for School District 2 high schools and elementary schools, according to preliminary results released Tuesday night. "I think it was really solid," SD 2 Superintendent Terry Bouck said Tuesday evening of the levy design. "I think we need to take a look at things and then move forward." About 51.5 percent of voters rejected the elementary levy, and about 52.2 percent of voters shot down the high school levy. Overall, more than 35,000 ballots were cast — a turnout of more than 60 percent. The elementary levy would have reduced class sizes by providing more aides, added math as reading intervention teachers and expanded gifted and talented and STEM resources. The high school levy would have added Advanced Placement and Dual Credit classes, expanded resources for struggling students, reduced class sizes and bolstered professional development and textbooks for expanding programs.
