Smithsonian isn't trying to save Tamir Rice gazebo, blames poor communication for creating wrong impression CLEVELAND, Ohio – Poor communication from the Smithsonian's Museum of African American History and Culture created a false impression that the museum wanted to preserve the Cleveland gazebo where 12-year-old Tamir Rice was fatally shot, a spokeswoman said Wednesday. But while that impression was understandable from reading an email sent by the museum's senior history curator to the city on Monday, that is not the case, said LaFleur Paysour, a media specialist for the museum. "It sounds that way but that's just not the case," Paysour said Wednesday evening. "We are not looking at that as something that we want to preserve." Initially, the museum had blamed the media for inaccurate reports. In an email Monday, the museum's Senior History Curator William Pretzer told Cleveland Law Director Barbara Langhenry that he was writing on behalf of the museum to request a delay of the demolition of the gazebo at the Cuddell Recreation Center.
