Kasich issues executive order allowing quick ban on deadly opioidOhio Gov. John Kasich signed an executive order Tuesday night permiting the Ohio Board of Pharmacy to quickly confront a new opiod finding its way onto Ohio streets. Kasich’s order permits the pharmacy board to immediately classify the drug – U-47700 – as a prohibited Schedule I drug instead of waiting 90 days for a rule to take effect. Kasich’s executive order calls the synthetic opiod “a significant public health risk.” U-47700 is 7 1/2 times stronger than morphine, with the drug beginning to show up on the streets of northeast Ohio, where it has been blamed on at least one overdose death. www.dispatch.com/content/blogs/the-daily-briefing/2016/05/5-4-16-new-opiod-banned.html
