State Legislature still grappling over guns, abortion and the 10 Commandments
The State Legislature will adjourn on May 27 after four months of head-scratching and brainstorming over the state’s impending budget shortfall. It has four weeks to come up with a solution, or at the very least, a decision regarding what gets cut and how deep those cuts go. But amid the backdrop of a $1.3 billion budget shortfall, some bills and resolutions of public interest, concern and ire are on the verge of becoming law: • SJR 92 — The Senate has approved a resolution, authored by Sen. Rob Standrige (R-Norman), to repeal the “Blaine Amendment” — the amendment cited by the Oklahoma Supreme Court in a 2015 ruling that forced the removal of a 10 Commandments monument from the Capitol grounds.
