ATLANTA — Gov. Nathan Deal has signed legislation that enhances penalties for those involved in sex trafficking in Georgia. Attorney General Sam Olens’ Office says that House Bill 770 expands Georgia’s laws on sexual trafficking to include enhanced penalties for trafficking individuals with developmental disabilities and strengthens law enforcement’s ability to use undercover officers to proactively investigate sex trafficking of minors. “Human trafficking is a scourge on our communities that robs citizens of their dignity, innocence and basic human rights,” Olens said Tuesday. “With HB 770 signed into law, we continue the fight against this horrendous crime. I would like to thank Representative Chuck Efstration and Senator Renee Unterman for their leadership in the passage of this bill.” Efstration added, “This legislation will help to protect Georgia’s most vulnerable, children and the developmentally disabled, from the horrific crime of human trafficking. I’m very proud to have carried this bill.” Read more: www.albanyherald.com/news/local/governor-signs-bill-targeting-sex-trafficking/article_dbf3e305-9e0e-59ac-a0dd-27e666b9e152.html
