JEFFERSON CITY • Gov. Jay Nixon is not convinced that the Republican-led Legislature can completely cut Planned Parenthood out of the upcoming state budget. In action Friday, the Democratic chief executive vetoed $875,000 in spending out of the $27 billion budget plan sent to him by lawmakers. And, while he didn’t use his veto pen to strike out language affecting Planned Parenthood, he raised the specter that there may be a way to do an end run around the legislative attempts to defund the abortion provider. “We will continue to analyze the legal ramifications of this language, and work to ensure that we continue to provide access to essential health services,” Nixon told reporters at a press conference in his office.
