City clears Des Moines homeless camps on private properties
Three residents lingered behind as Des Moines city workers and heavy machinery began clearing several homeless camps just south of downtown Friday morning.
The trio was searching for a good place to leave a message written across a piece of cardboard for MidAmerican Energy: “Thank you Mid America!” it read.
They knew they were on private property. They knew their campsite was illegal. And they knew the eviction was coming.
They said they accept the consequences — and already had alternative sites in mind to relocate their camp.
