No Minnesota bonding bill this year? With Senate defeat, maybeThe Minnesota Senate narrowly defeated a public works funding bill on Thursday, putting in doubt the fate of construction projects across the state this year. In downtown St. Paul, for instance, the Dorothy Day Center is counting on state funds to construct its second new building starting next year, and the Science Museum of Minnesota needs state aid to fix a serious water leakage problem. Unless Duluth gets state bonding money, it could lose about $25 million in federal funds already in the pipeline to clean up polluted sites in the St. Louis River that empties into the city’s harbor. Dozens of financially strapped rural Minnesota cities would be on their own to repair or replace substandard sewer and water systems — if they could afford it.
