HARTFORD — The last time Richard Blumenthal ran, it was the Clintons who came to the rescue. This time, Hillary Clinton may need Blumenthal’s help more than Connecticut’s senior U.S. senator needs that of his Yale Law School classmate. Blumenthal, 70, accepted the Democratic nomination Saturday for a second term in Washington and tried to salve the bruises of a contentious primary campaign between Clinton and Blumenthal’s Senate colleague Bernie Sanders. The former longtime state attorney general told more than 1,000 Democrats at the state party convention in Hartford that they need to take the “fight” — a regular part of Blumenthal’s vocabulary — to Donald Trump and not each other. That was lost on one Sanders’ supporter, who shouted the name of the socialist senator from Vermont during Blumenthal’s remarks.
