CONCORD – The Senate Thursday split 12-12 to kill bills repealing the buffer zone law around abortion clinics and to gather data on abortions. House Bill 1570 would have repealed the 2014 law establishing an up to 25-foot buffer zone. The law has not been enforced after the US Supreme Court’s decision overturning a similar Massachusetts law. Bill opponents argued the buffer zone is needed now more than ever as violent threats and harassment have escalated, noting the destruction of the Claremont Planned Parenthood clinic and killings in Colorado. “I have great empathy for that individual who needs health care and has to walk through that gauntlet,” said Sen. Lou D’Allesandro, D-Manchester, whose district includes the Planned Parenthood clinic. “They go to a health clinic and they are accosted.” Read more: www.unionleader.com/Senate-splits-evenly-on-two-abortion-bills-20160505
