Newport City Considering New Chicken Regulations

The planning commission is considering a city bylaw change on zoning requirements for ownership of chickens. The current bylaw says anyone who wants to raise chickens need at least three acres of land. The proposed bylaw would allow ownership of chickens even on small residential lots. Some city residents with small lots already own chickens even though they violate zoning regulations.
