Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s letter raps Target bathroom policyIn a letter to Target Corp.’s top executive, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton warned the retail chain that its transgender-friendly bathroom policy could lead to criminal activity and help fuel a backlash from state lawmakers. While Paxton acknowledged that Target “of course is currently free to choose such a policy for its Texas stores,” his letter to CEO Brian Cornell warned that men could take advantage of the policy “for nefarious purposes” in women’s bathrooms and changing rooms — a fear gay and transgender rights advocates dismiss as far-fetched and malicious. “The Texas Legislature may at some point in the future address the issue,” Paxton wrote. “Regardless of whether Texas legislates on this topic, it is possible that allowing men in women’s restrooms could lead to criminal and otherwise unwanted activity.” Paxton’s letter, dated Monday, noted that he was speaking as the state’s “chief lawyer and law enforcement officer.” Read more: www.statesman.com/news/news/ken-paxton-letter-raps-target-bathroom-policy/nrHJ2/
