Top level changes continue at NJ Transit as Michael Drewniak, the former spokesman for Gov. Chris Christie, was named interim chief of staff. Interim Executive Director Dennis Martin sent a memo to NJ Transit employees on Monday announcing that Drewniak will be an interim replacement for former NJ Transit Chief of Staff Jacquie Halldow, who recently joined Christie's Office of Communications as Deputy Chief of Staff. Drewniak moved to NJ Transit in April 2015, becoming the first chief of policy and strategic planning. Then NJ Transit Executive Director Veronique Hakim told NJ Advance Media that it was her idea to recruit Drewniak for the newly created post. The hiring, which came with a $147,000 annual salary, was criticized by commuter groups when the agency announced it was seeking a 9 percent fare increase, which took effect on Oct. 1.
