About a dozen Assembly members met Monday to hash out a compromise on an Atlantic City rescue bill, Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto told reporters. Prieto, D-Hudson, Bergen, sounded optimistic, but after implying he didn’t feel rushed because the city could always go bankrupt, Trenton’s leaders attacked each other again. Prieto said having a new bill by Wednesday’s voting session was a goal, but said a vote may come later due to procedural steps. There are two rival rescue bills: a Senate state takeover and Prieto’s plan, which creates a committee that sets annual fiscal benchmarks the city must fail to trigger a takeover.
