Alcohol sales compromise bill receives initial OK in Colorado HouseA bill to expand alcohol sales in Colorado moved a step closer to law Tuesday night, after the state House gave it initial approval. The legislation would allow chain grocery stores and major retailers such as Walmart and Target to sell liquor, wine and full-strength beer at up to 20 locations by 2037, when all prohibitions would fall away. Senate Bill 197 still has to pass a roll-call vote in the House on Wednesday and return to the Senate to approve minor amendments before the end of the day, when the 120-day session expires. The bill is aimed at heading off a November ballot initiative on the issue, but there's no assurance that would happen.
