Planned Parenthood shooter's competency to be decided WednesdayCOLORADO SPRINGS — Prosecutors on Tuesday tried to poke holes in an evaluation completed by two state psychologists who say the man accused of killing three people at a Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood is not mentally competent. Fourth Judicial District Judge Gilbert Martinez will rule Wednesday on whether Robert Lewis Dear Jr. is mentally capable of participating in and understanding the case against him. Dear faces 179 counts — including eight charges of first-degree murder — for the Nov. 27 attack at the Colorado Springs clinic. The 57-year-old is accused of killing University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Police Officer Garrett Swasey, Ke'Arre Stewart, 29, and Jennifer Markovsky, 35. Dear has not entered a plea. Martinez ordered Dear to undergo a competency evaluation in December after Dear said he wanted to fire his public defenders and represent himself.
