Democrat Connie Pillich sounds out support for Ohio gubernatorial run in 2018
COLUMBUS, Ohio—Ex-lawmaker Connie Pillich has told a number of Ohio Democrats that she's running for governor in 2018, according to several sources who heard from her directly.
David Betras, chairman of the Mahoning County Democratic Party, confirmed that Pillich reached out to him in recent months about a possible gubernatorial bid.
Pillich, a former state representative from Cincinnati who ran for state treasurer in 2014, said Wednesday she's currently focusing on helping Democrats win in 2016. She said that it's "too early" for her to think about a gubernatorial campaign.
Asked whether she told other Ohio Democrats that she's planning to run for governor, Pillich said, "I'm not commenting on that."
