Ohio House leaders stalling religious liberty bill, lawmaker saysCOLUMBUS, Ohio -- A Southwest Ohio Republican said Wednesday that House leaders are blocking his bill protecting pastors and churches from performing same-sex marriages from reaching the floor. Rep. Nino Vitale, a Champaign County Republican, said his bill will pass if it is put to a full vote of the GOP-controlled House. "There are small groups of people that often say I don't want to vote on that legislation," Vitale said at a Wednesday news conference. "I'm not afraid to vote on pieces of legislation and tell the voters of Ohio where I stand." House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger, said leaders are not stalling the legislation. Rosenberger said GOP lawmakers discussed the bill Monday night, but Vitale wasn't present to answer questions. Rosenberger said pastors already have religious liberty protections under the U.S. Constitution, and Vitale's bill would make them more vulnerable than they are now.
