Hundreds of mayors will meet in Indianapolis this summer to discuss issues facing their cities, such as criminal justice reform, water and infrastructure. Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, president of the United States Conference of Mayors, will join nearly 300 of the nation's top municipal leaders, including Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett, to examine the "overall health of America’s cities" before this summer's political conventions, a release from conference officials said. Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders and presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump also have been invited to talk with attendees about the conference's aim to prioritize urban issues and strengthen federal-local partnership, the release said. It's unclear, however, whether the candidates will attend. "With more than 85% of people in the United States living in our nation’s cities and metro areas, mayors are convinced that despite their geographic location, cities large and small are plagued by many of the same challenges," the release said. "As a result, and unlike other elected officials, mayors are often able to find common ground and work in a true spirit of bipartisanship."
