A law that goes into effect July 1 will allow an exception to motorists having to stop for school buses loading or unloading students. The exception is limited to drivers of a vehicle on a four-lane divided highway, with two lanes in the opposite direction. The driver of a vehicle won’t have to stop when meeting or passing a school bus stopped in the opposite direction if students don’t have to cross the roadway. State Rep. Greg Haney, R-Gulfport, said he doesn’t know if anyone was ever written a ticket for not stopping on a four-lane divided highway, but the law is on the books.
