The New Hampshire primary dodged another bullet. The 2016 presidential primary is just fine. Candidates are now in overdrive, hopeful the nation's first primary Feb. 9 will validate their campaigns and launch them to their party's nomination. A couple of Republican leaders, however, have eyed potential changes for 2020. One of them, Texas GOP Chairman Tom Mechler, had planned to pitch a rule change targeting the early states' role at the start of the presidential nominating calendar. Mechler, at the behest of Lone Star State Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz, decided to pull his proposal from the Republican National Committee's winter meeting this week in Charleston, S.C. RNC member Steve Duprey of Concord applauded the development. “We are pleased that the proposed rule has been withdrawn,” he tells the Union Leader. “We know Senator Cruz is a strong supporter of the early state process and it seemed incongruous for his Texas Republican chairman to be advocating a different position.” Continue reading at www.unionleader.com/article/20160110/NEWS0605/160119976
