CHEYENNE – Wyoming lawmakers have rejected a proposal that would have extended health coverage to about 20,000 low-income residents. The Legislature’s Joint Appropriations Committee voted Wednesday to strip a Medicaid expansion proposal out of the Department of Health budget that was recommended by Gov. Matt Mead. Mead says the expansion would provide $33.4 million in net savings to the state’s general fund for the next two years. He said this was especially important given the state’s decline energy revenues. The JAC, however, rejected the proposal as the group began voting on the governor’s budget requests for the Department of Health.
