New London — Connecticut College students on Friday were occupying a room in Fanning Hall as part of an ongoing protest related to the college's response to controversial posters distributed by students Monday night. The posters — which included the name and logo of student group Conn Students in Solidarity with Palestine in the bottom right corner — were fake eviction notices "meant to call attention to certain Palestinian claims against Israel," according to an all-campus email sent by Interim Dean of Equity and Inclusion David Canton on Tuesday night. Canton said that the posters appeared in the hallways of several student residences and that his office is investigating the "incident." He noted that similar notices have appeared in college residence halls throughout the country within the past few years. "Seeing these posters in residential common areas, particularly this close to final exams, has been disturbing to our students," the Tuesday night email states.
