Church shooting victims’ families upset Gov. Nikki Haley not supporting gun law reforms
Gov. Nikki Haley’s lack of support for enacting gun law reforms has angered relatives of the nine people killed in a mass shooting at Emanuel AME Church last June.
Haley garnered national praise last summer when she publicly mourned with the victims’ loved ones, and many had held out hope she would join them in demanding that the so-called “Charleston loophole” be closed.
Instead, she said Thursday that she wants the FBI to account for its failure to complete the accused Emanuel AME killer’s background check in three days and explain how it will avoid future delays before addressing wait times for those checks.
“You can say extend it multiple days, but if you don’t fix the system ... none of this matters,” she said, adding, “If you give me six more days, how do you prove to me that it’s going to fix it?”
