NASA announced Thursday that it selected Blue Origin as yet another company to launch suborbital technology payloads. Blue Origin, based in the Seattle area, becomes the sixth company to be named as a contractor for NASA’s Flight Opportunities Program. The company is owned by Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos. The company is also building a rocket manufacturing facility on Merritt Island, and Florida is also is in the running to win production of the company's BE-4 rocket engines. NASA's FOP program is for reusable rockets and payload integration, and has a combined value not to exceed $45 million.
