Atlanta police officer files lawsuit against Montgomery police chiefMontgomery Police Chief Ernest Finley is a co-defendant in a lawsuit filed Wednesday by an Atlanta police officer. The suit, filed in U.S. District Court, names Finley along with Atlanta Police Chief George Turner and Van Hobbs, a 25-year veteran of the Atlanta police. Finley was formerly the deputy chief with APD prior to becoming Montgomery's police chief last year. The lawsuit was filed by Terry Joyner, an Atlanta police lieutenant who is the son of the former police chief with the City of Roswell, Ga. In the 29-page lawsuit, Joyner says he was passed over for promotions because of his race and for complaining about racial discrimination, as well as reporting acts of alleged ticket-fixing. The lawsuit claims Joyner was on a "fast track" in the department, going from investigator to lieutenant in a six-year period.
