A Starkville, Miss. doctor died giving birth Wednesday at the hospital where she worked.
Dr. Nikki Shoemake, 40, died at OCH Regional Medical Center of "natural causes during delivery of a baby," said Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt.
Her child survived and is in a Jackson, Miss. hospital, according to WSOC.
OCH Regional, in a statement, said, "Our hospital family is mourning the loss of this beautiful woman who devoted her life to taking care of others. Please remember Dr. Shoemake's family in your thoughts and prayers. She will be missed greatly but will never be forgotten."
